SITEPURCHASEDOWNLOADAll I will say is this is a gem, a rare find which makes you say "Damn, this is awesome". It's obscure, funky, Russian electronic music which is all about the glory days of the Cosmonauts and Shepherds which have more in common than you think. It is best described as "Space-age Russian disco music that somehow simultaneously sounds like it belongs in 1950 and 2050." and was one hell of an album the whole way through. Buy it, download it, listen to it, and enjoy it, and stop by OMFO's site for a cool insight on the album.

This Puerto-Rican band makes some really good electropop. This album is excellent, and a real treat to listen to. If you like Matmos, grab this as soon as possible.

Simply put, it is really hard to find any faults in this album and it is one of the best albums I've heard that's for sure.

PURCHASEDOWNLOADCrazy album here, I mean it's simply amazing. Despite it's length you will easily forget about time and just mellow out and get lost in the album. Even though I enjoy it so much it's very hard to describe, its bleak, dark, haunting, eerie, mellow and relaxing all while keeping sick beats at the core of each song which really help each song fit together perfectly. It's a real piece of work and really blew my mind, it has to be one of the most enjoyable albums I've found in a while.

PURCHASEDOWNLOADThis here is a classic, Alec Empire's "The Destroyer" album pretty much set a standard for its day. Though the term "break core" was used before, this album was highly popular due to its innovative use of breaks which many had not seen at the time. Each song is nuts, fast crazy breaks, hard hitting bass lines, and tons of samples. It was very unique for its day and I still think it is to day. Death, destruction, sex, immortality, apathy, imminent doom are all pretty much the themes of the album which fit quite well with Alec's persona and the general nature of the album.
Also, pay attention to the last few tracks, there is one sample there which still cracks me up no matter how many times I listen to it, haha.

DOWNLOADPURCHASESo, I got this album 'cause I saw it in a 3x3 CDs thread at /mu/. Some guy with a rather good taste had this at his 3x3 and I got curious. After lurking a bit, I found out: black metal? Eh.. Not my cup of tea. But I downloaded it, after all.
I'm right now addicted to this album. It's not like the BM I was used to. I mean, just listen to
this song. It's beautiful! That piano! There are others like this one too, and there's one completely electronic, which reminds me a lot of Ulver's Perdition City (one of the best CDs ever made).

With a stash of shoegazing and pioneering lp's undoubtedly in their reserve, Epic 45 have a sound that is both grand and incredibly intimate, recalling the likes of Hood in their melody hazed outlook. Opening with the title track, 'England Fallen Over' radiates a strange warmth with it's sunrise sensibilities, matching a swirling miasma of effulgent soundscapes to vocals that, whilst outwardly soft, are as spiky as a cactus. A similar effect is achieved on 'Walk Led To Happiness' and 'The Year Ahead', whilst 'Swerving To Avoid Falling Leaves' has a distinct introspective scent amongst its blossom heavy bows. Unique and interesting.

As far as debuts go, the Arcade Fire's seven-song introduction to the world will forever be lorded over by its behemoth older sibling, 2004's commercially and critically lauded
Funeral. While the hundreds of people who coveted the self-titled EP prior to its 2005 re-release on the ultra-hip Merge label can rest assured that their copies are indeed original, those who are looking for a prequel to the anthemic, end-of-the-world bombast that emanated like a black-box recorder from
Funeral are in for a treat. There is not much to say though, as by now you either like Arcade Fire or you don't. There aren't any major style changes with this album.

The story behind "Devil's Trill" starts with a dream. Tartini allegedly told the French astronomer Jérôme Lalande that he dreamed that
The Devil appeared to him and asked to be his servant. At the end of their lessons Tartini handed the devil his violin to test his skill—the devil immediately began to play with such virtuosity that Tartini felt his breath taken away. When the composer awoke he immediately jotted down the sonata, desperately trying to recapture what he had heard in the dream. Despite the sonata being successful with his audiences, Tartini lamented that the piece was still far from what he had heard in his dream. What he had written was, in his own words: "so inferior to what I had heard, that if I could have subsisted on other means, I would have broken my violin and abandoned music forever." It was believed to have been a song that was played in heaven but was banished for its negativity against God. It is also believed that if you played it your soul would belong to the devil forever. In other words, it is believed that this is one of the hardest pieces ever written for the violin, featuring many different skills the violinist must master in order to play it skillfully.
(This is one of my favorite Classical pieces, and the playing in this recording is nearly perfect, unfortunately, they really do mean what they say above, the song is fucking hard to play.)

More than likely one of the most impressive releases of the 90s, with a beautiful, harsh, and archaic sound, Rodan gives you the album Rusty. I find sometimes, when talking about music, that I simply lack the words needed to describe an album without sounding like I am masturbating with the English language. Download this album, and listen to it for yourself.

One of Stephen Wilson's numerous side-projects, No-Man sounds similar to a Stephen Wilson release. Many of Wilson's songs with No-Man also have a lush, romantic quality about them -- none moreso than the gorgeous "Days In The Trees," from the album Lovesights - An Entertainment. Thematically “Schoolyard Ghosts” can be seen as a more optimistic counterpart to Porcupine Tree’s “Fear of a Blank Planet”. Both albums are dealing with youth in some way, but while Porcupine Tree draw a pessimistic, cynical picture, No-Man’s approach is more hopeful. Which doesn’t mean it can’t be amazingly melancholic, sad and sometimes almost bleak.

I know what you are thinking by looking at this. "Oh not this fucking punk shit again, and it's not even from the 80s, it's going to be garbage." Unfortunately you are wrong. Sounding much closer to Propaghandi than anything else, the album shines through with well-written lyrics, and an excellent sense of where they want to take you with this album. However, overall, the album is dragged down by a few mediocre tracks. These mostly occur near the end of the album though, so this impacts the album very little.

Noctambulant is an impossible album. Some of the things the guitarists in Spawn of Possession are doing here don't even sound possible. Overall, the sound is incredibly melodic, sounding closer to Between the Buried and Me at times, instead of a more traditional approach to death metal. But for SoP, this works well for them, the music creates a tale of suffering, woe, and some of the best playing I have heard in years. The huge standouts for this album are Sour Flow for the guitars, and Scorched for the drumming. Listen to Sour Flow once, and you will be blown away.
