Kyuss (pronounced “KAI-us”) is the corner stone of the genre known to many as
stoner rock or
desert rock. Although derivative of 70s
hard rock, Kyuss also managed to sound unique. Primarily this was because guitarist
Josh Homme often tuned to a low C, a major third below standard pitch, and also due to singer
John Garcia’s paint stripping vocals. The aptly paced and gripping music lend to the feeling of a drive through the desert on a motorcycle, devil may care.

I have to say, in a world where chiptune sucks, this band does not make it suck. Everything is kept minimally, as to fully maximize all parts of the music. Sound ebbs and flows, twisting itself as time passes by. Vocals softly drift into the tracks, a delicate dance. An album worth snatching. A notable track is
Parasol Parachute, which manages to be trippy, ambient, and beautiful at the same time, often in the same moments.

DOWNLOADPURCHASEDesiderii Marginis, ever since their first release has ranked among the best dark ambient acts. Before this album I would have written this review saying that they follow with great talent the Cold Meat traditional sound (which is already not so bad consdeitng the overall quality of the label). But with this I have to amend my thought and say that they Define the Cold Meat sound rather than just following it. This album is pure simple beauty, dark ambient in all it splendor, with the judicious addition of acoustic guitars. What diferentiates this albums from other excellent acts (like Sephiroth or Raison D'Etre maybe) is the simplicity of the writing. They do not need to create complex structures and gurgling noises, and they can allow themselves to be melodic (which is often a trap in this genre). To prove my say, one of my friends who's absolutely not in this type of music liked it instantly when he heard it. This is the differnece between talent and genius, and genius, Desiderii Marginis have a lot.

DOWNLOADPURCHASELos Campesinos new album, We Are Beautiful We Are Doomed, is quite a different album from what the band usually makes. The music has for the most part stayed the same, but the lyrics are a lot different, somewhat more angry and depressing. This album probably won't attract as much fans as Hold on Now, Youngster... but this is still a great album from them. I recommend starting with their first album if you want to get into the band though, since it is much more accessible than this lyric wise...
Side note, this album has yet to be release in the states, so if you want to order it either import it, or wait till November 25th, as it is only available in Europe as of now

To start off, I love this album. It has hard hitting breakcore beats, overlapped with metal riffs, which sound great together. Bong-Ra has made some great music in this album, much like in his Stereohype Heroin Hooker album, though this isn't like his more acclaimed IDM style (which I kind of didn't like), but it is still great. Pick it up if you like breakcore, this won't disappoint.
PS I think the quality is v0, but I can't remember where I got this from originally, so I can't double check... May be v2 VBR though, again not sure...

Jonsi's lyrics are for the most part, a fictional language known as Hopelandic. The vocals are therefore a strong addition to the music by becoming adding the effects of an instrument. If I could describe Sigur Ros in one word, it would be: Beautiful. Similar Artists: none that I've heard of thus far, but I hear 'mum' is nearly tantamount. Personal Favorite Tracks: Saeglopur, Milano (the singing is just phenomenal especially in this track because he just hits notes that you don't think he can pull off...but he does), Gong, Glosoli, and Hoppipolla. Sigur Ros: You put Iceland on the map.

Windir, or in English “Primal Warrior”, is a black metal band from Sogndal, Norway. Slowly the music falls from the frostbitten mountaintops, seeping down as cold mist through the dark green pine trees. Erupting as an avalanche, the drums are an avalance, crashing down, in a grim and frostbitten flurry of might. What is left but the cold? Would you brave the voyage...
