It is known to fans of Mark Kozelek's music that he is as skilled an interpreter as he is a songwriter. After cutting the final Red House Painters album in 1998, he has since used his own name as a means to release the occasional odd cover album between larger projects. 2008's
The Finally LP is among the finest and most humble of these yet, presenting an accessible array of bittersweet yet amicable acoustic covers that span the breadth of Kozelek's unique taste and influence. Known for drastically reconfiguring the songs of Bon Scott, Isaac Brock and Ace Frehley in the past, the singer does not limit himself here either: while stripping down Will Oldham's grimy "New Partner" to a beautifully finger-picked folk song, he does the exact opposite to the likes of Low's "Lazy", metamorphosing their classic slowcore dirge into an upbeat country ditty. Same goes for Husker Du's "Celebrated Summer", which appears as an open-tune mood piece in the vein of Nick Drake. Meanwhile, "If You Want Blood" is an alternate version of an AC/DC cover that appeared on Kozelek's 2001 collection
What's Next to The Moon. This one is worth a spin for admirers of Mark Kozelek or good folk music in general, as well as anyone looking for some interesting cover versions.

Aside from the... odd, shall we say, cover art, this Finnish band is excellent. The vocals ring clear and beautiful, melding into the music. I feel like I am lost for words in recent times, but this album is something,
worthwhile.
Musta Ruusu reigns as the best track, for its clear acoustical play, and wonderful vocal use.

elliott smith and

a lot. Everyone Feels Like You is bloody beautiful.
also, gotta love hopeless romantics lyrics. "you're bored with your boyfriend", "if you don't know who you are, you're not alone", "tell your ex-girlfriend you need her", and on...

Just keep away from anything sharp or potentially harmful if you really don't plan on seeing that GAME OVER screen. The album is about a depressed patient in a hospital and basically his life ends and it's emotionally moving. I generally find music to be good if it can make you feel a certain way, whether good or bad, happy or sad. Similar artists to Eels: Elliot Smith. Personal favorite tracks: Ant Farm, Last Stop: This Town, P.S. You Rock My World, and Electro-Shock Blues. Keep some Kleenex nearby.

They come from Birmingham, Alabama. I have no idea where the music comes from. 13 ghosts' premiere album blew me away. The music is mature and hearfelt, with touches of Pink Floyd and Western movies, combined with an
edge of some sort. It's powerful, uplifting, and heartbreaking all at once. If you've ever drove into the sunset, leaving your cares behind, and want that feeling again, this album has it in plenty.
Beyond The Door in particular is a track that shouldn't be missed.

DOWNLOADPURCHASEelliott smith was one of those sad boys with guitars. his music is beautiful, depressive, simple. most of 'em are vocals & acoustic guitar only. suffering from depression and alcoholism, he killed himself at home, 5 years ago. but his voice will remain forever, on the records, the vinyls, the mp3s... this is my favourite album by him, although every cd has its masterpieces. I'll probably post either/or and the self-titled some other time. there's an Elliott Smith memorial at LA, outside Solutions Audio, you can check it out
here or
here. pretty moving stuff. his lyrics are fantastic too, make sure to listen closely.
edit: there's a song missing, on the link I posted. you get it
