Scrawl - Velvet Hammer (1993) Saturday, May 18, 2013 |
You've never heard of this album. By that, I mean that no one knows this album. For some reason or another Scrawl never showed up on the map in any major way, but despite this, it's one of the best albums I've heard. Scrawl, sounding like a fusion of earlier Sonic Youth and Pavement, while taking their music in a very personal direction. The album's lyricism remains realistic and never looks to the grandiose, while at the same time remaining strangely poignant. It's emotional, it's lo-fi, and it's good.
