Tidings
Basically, I have two things to enumerate (explain) in this post.
One: Sharethread is looking for a new poster! If you think you qualify (read: don't listen to hannah montana all day) then post a comment describing why you should be a poster, what music you might post, what new stuff you'll bring to the blog, etc. etc., obviously the more the better, and if you want to actually be considered, leave your email in your post so we can contact you.
Two: I have been playing with the idea of adding ads to sharethread. Now, before everyone screams 'sellout' at us and runs away, this would be for you guys. ANY MONEY MADE WOULD NOT BE USED FOR ANY OF US, but rather to do giveaways of new albums, band t-shirts, things like that, which actually support the artists, and as an added bonus, you guys get free stuff! However, I'm not going to arbitrarily go off and do this, so I wanted to ask everyone first if you were ok with this being enacted. No banner ads, just google text ads. As to how we determine what to give away, most likely we will post a new album, and then mention next to Download, something like this: 'Download - Etc.' with this below it: 'We're giving away a physical copy of the album', and then you would post your email or a way to get in touch with you in the comments to win, or you can send a mail to the site with the giveaway's name in the subject or whatever. We aren't going to use your emails for anything, and we won't save them, if you can think of a different way for us to enter you in the contest, feel free to use it, I don't care. If you want to use something that we can't get in touch with though, don't be surprised when we announce another winner instead.
So, sorry for the boring news post, and expect me to actually post some new tunes for you guys, because I have a lot to share.
Your audacious lover,
sharethread

Sharing music sounds like a fun use of my time. I mostly listen to post-rock/metal, screamo, post-hardcore, all kinds of electronic, and a lot of foreign stuff (African, European, Japanese, etc), new and old, of any genre. That's not offering much more than the average /mu/tant, but eh.

Bring it! I live in South Africa so have access to a bunch of records down here which would probably otherwise not see the light of day. I've uploaded 3 albums to give you an idea of the kinda stuff I'd post (catwalktrash is South African). Will keep posting stuff like this, with a couple of other oddities/rarities thrown in.

What about the ads... good/bad idea? top
August 29, 2010 at 5:11 PM
Obviously, posting as an Anon, I am not posting for the application. Regarding the ads... Assuming it led to new fun features (so to speak), I think it'd be worth it. Although, I would not like ads flooding the whole page, as that is quite obnoxious. You have a lot of free space and it looks very neat at the moment. I could tolerate the occasional advertisement.
tl;dr
Some ads are okay. top

Text ads alone should be fine. Discretion, please. top
August 29, 2010 at 5:29 PM
Yes, it would be -just- text ads, nothing more or less, I'm sure you have seen them before. top

I should just copy and paste what Rock Division said, but with my contact info.
I just started writing reviews on my blog after years of reading them. I started by reviewing old favorites, I haven't reviewed anything current thus far.

Fuck ads, don't get to ambitious bros. IT's just a blewg.
Also if anyone joins they need to explain why Dragonforce is the most innovative musical force on earth at the moment. If they can't do that they shouldn't post here. top

My friend's in a fantasy/elf/wizards/dungeons (and possibly dragons)/quest/homosexual metal band where he dresses as a.. like a... an elf or something... and shreds the synth and guitar. Basically if you're even remotely into that kinda thing, you don't need anybody to tell you why it's awesome. Dragonforce isn't the most innovative band ever, I think they're just the most well-known from that super-shreddy fantasy metal genre. top

Sure, why not. I'm up for postin' some shit on here.
My musical taste is like...math rock, electronica (whateverthefuck that means), indie, hipster metal and all that /mu/core shit. I'm also way into music that incorporates sampling. I like music that's fun or interesting to listen to.

JV sorry but you are not cut out for this position if you just write them off that easily. You have clearly never enjoyed the skilled technicalities and powerful lyrics that Dragonforce poses thus proves you are closed minded and biased when it comes to music and not cut out to contribute new and diverse music since you clearly write things off at face value and ignore much better music than you listen to. top
August 30, 2010 at 12:37 PM
Also to elaborate somewhat but not really fully on the point dragonforce are the most innovative musical force on the planet for their mastering of music. They have perfected the generic formula of rock music and experimented on it into a whole new form of music while retaining it's original properties to still entertain those who don't understand what they are doing.
Not to mention their composition skills rival that of even renaissance era musicians and their lyrics are the same. Powerful, lyrically complex yet motivating in a realm few go into which they also managed to master.
You may just write it off as fantasy metal but if you ever listened to their lyrics there is nothing fantasy about it. Their messages are clearly way to complex for a philistine like you to handle. Thus you are not fit to post here.
I mean you even say you are not good at listening to music and are scrobbling passion pit. So then again it really makes no sense as to why you would post here and just clutter this place up with garbage. top

Is that a masterful troll, P!? I herd u liek bad lyrics (loldragonforce) top
August 30, 2010 at 3:18 PM
Their lyrics are actually their most intricate aspect. A lot of people are all LOLGUITARS but really what deserves praise is their writing abilities to use such elaborate metaphors to convey the every day struggles of life into something much more interesting yet still relatable to the average person.
Because people just complaining about shit is boring but the way they write the lyrics is much more poetic than just complaining that many seemingly miss the main message of the song. For instance
"Through the fire and the flames we carry on"
This isn't about a battle or literally doing it but to get through the mundane and often tough parts of life without breaking under pressure and what not. It is a very motivational song on face value yes but has a whole other and equally motivating message many seemingly neglect.
And that is only from one line in one song so you can see what I am getting at as far as their writing abilities go.
A lot of these "indie" bands really try to hard hence why I find them to be god awful. Radiohead are the worst. They push that whole artsy factor into it and just make them sound like pompous pretentious pansies who are all sad and depressed.
Well that brings me to another point being that dragonforce have those same aspects but are much more intracate in placing them. Instead of being all "blah blah blah I'm different and sad and deep" they manage to hide it in plain sight while being very open about it
Most people like JV would write off Dragonforces stuff as just fantasy metal all "WE WILL FIGHT FOR THE KING" like Rhapsody or something but they are much deeper than that, anyone who has actually given their music a chance can see that.
While, may I add, keeping the music at a very good entertainment level to have deep and somewhat depressing lyrics while not boring the listener half to death into their own depression. Which is something else I never got, twats who make sad music who just like to wallow in their own sadness and not get through it like a man.
But being a pansy seems synonymous with being a hipster, same with being helpful faggots (I'm looking at you /mu/) but what ever I am making my point that dragonforce are really the best musical force on earth not ranting about how gay /mu/ has gotten. top

I love you P! top
August 30, 2010 at 4:45 PM
P! I wouldn't say I've written them off, I'm just not a huge fan. I think you've written me off for scrobbling Passion Pit (I'm making a mix CD for a girl who likes Scissors Sisters!). "Most people like JV would write off Dragonforce" That's not fair. Has it ever occurred to you that I simply prefer Manowar and Rhapsody? Okay, I don't.
They're an intense band. They're super technical, and super polished and that goes a long way. Every genre has merit, but for me, it just becomes white noise after a while. I didn't mean to offend.
Also, are you... in Dragonforce? top

I always thought of D.F. to be somewhat of a joke. Like in that one Southpark ep. where they make a Christian rock band and just replace love songs lyrics with 'Jesus' and 'Lord'. Keeping a Fantasy theme allows them to be moderately flexible with their lyrics, as well. Though, honestly, I am not much into the genre to begin with. Since I do not care for Fantasy themed metaphors, if they are even that, I do not like Dragonforce. Though I do like some of the guitar and instrumentals.
Possibly end the dragonforce conversation here. It's flooding the posts. It's become too off-topic despite being fun to read :) top

RE: ADS ON THE SITE
If you guys need the revenue from advertising on the site to keep the good stuff flowing, I'd say go for it!
I won't complain about some ads around the edges if it is of benefit to the community here.
Keep up the good work! top

Hey!
I'd also be up for posting some albums on this blog. I used to have my own music blog but had to stop due to my studies. Now I have more time, though.
I like many types of music, but I generally listen to progressive metal (mainly progressive death metal), post-rock, math-rock, technical metal, punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, experimental, avant-garde... Anything which is interesting (progressive, technical, fusion) will do, though, independent of genre.
I have a pretty decent collection as well (14000+ songs) and I like spending time just roaming around the internet searching for new bands to listen to.
